The AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series will be competing next week as part of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, round ten of the 2011 FIM MotoGP world championship. In preparation for what will be a double-header weekend for the XR1200 class, teams and riders have assembled at IMS this week for a two-day test to get their bikes dialed-in for the 2.6-mile 16-turn circuit.
21 out of the 31 confirmed entries for next week’s race have come out to participate in the two-day test, with 18 riders taking to the track in today’s morning and afternoon sessions. Championship points leader, Chris Fillmore riding for Richie Morris Racing led the way in both sessions, setting a fast lap of 1:59.577, distinguishing himself as the first rider to break the two minute mark.
In addition to the stable of AMA Pro XR1200 regulars, there are several other well-known racers who will be making one-off appearances in the XR1200 races next week, including former MotoGP racer Jeremy McWilliams, who finished second quick in today’s test, this year’s Daytona 200 winner Jason DiSalvo and several riders competing in the Canadian XR1200 championship, including former AMA Superbike racer Steve Crevier.
Tomorrow, the riders will get another two sessions to shakedown their machines and make final preparations for next week’s races. Keep with all the latest at vanceandhines.com/xr1200series.html and facebook.com/vanceandhines.
