June 2, 2011, Santa Fe Springs, CA – Exactly one year ago, the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series made its debut at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, just a little over an hour’s drive from the headquarters of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company in downtown Milwaukee. This weekend the XR1200s return to the gorgeous four-mile road racing circuit for the AMA Pro Road Racing Subway SuperBike Doubleheader.
With twenty XR1200 entries signed up for this weekend’s race, double the bike count from last year’s inaugural race, fans are sure to be treated to an exciting spectacle as the 1200cc v-twins thunder through the forest lined circuit at Road America. The first three races have produced three different winners, including Richie Morris Racing’s Kyle Wyman and Chris Fillmore, and Parts Unlimited’s Steve Rapp, who took his first win on the XR last weekend at Miller Motorsports Park.
And while a few of the riders on the entry list competed in last year’s inaugural XR1200 race, for the majority of the field, it will be their first time taking the XR out on this track, including former gymnast turned motorcycle racer, Gerry Signorelli, whose recent dismount at Infineon Raceway was dramatically caught on camera.
Some of the newcomers to the class this weekend will be AMA veteran Jeremiah Johnson, Kuryakyn’s Bryan Desimone and eighteen-year-old AMA Supersport rider and Wisconsin native Nicholas Hansen riding for local Harley-Davidson dealer Suburban Motors. In all, nine different Harley-Davidson dealers are running or supporting teams in the XR1200 class including Latus Motors, Bruce Rossmeyer’s, Black Hills H-D, Bartel’s H-D, Harv’s H-D, H-D of Appleton, Davis H-D, NewRoc H-D and Suburban Motors.
Last year’s Road America winner and class champion, Danny Eslick, is back this weekend to try to repeat on his RMR XR1200. The Daytona Sportbike regular made a surprise appearance on the XR at Miller last weekend, and after nearly a year since he last road the XR, Eslick put on a great show sliding his way to a stellar second place finish.
The XR1200s will be on the track Saturday morning for practice with qualifying on Saturday afternoon, and then racing on Sunday afternoon. With good weather forecast for the weekend, it’s sure to be an exciting race.
