AMA PRO VANCE & HINES XR1200 SERIES DRAWS FROM ACROSS THE RACING SPECTRUM

February 17, 2011, Santa Fe Springs, California – With just three weeks to go until the start of the 2011 AMA Pro season, the grid for the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series will not only be a battle of youth versus experience, but also a battle of disciplines, with many familiar names from Road Racing, Flat Track and even Supermoto.

It was only one year ago during the Daytona 200 weekend that the formation of the new spec-racing class based on the Harley-Davidson Sportster XR1200 was announced. Three months later, the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series made history with its first race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin as part of a five-race inaugural season for the XR1200s.

Fast forward to 2011, the XR1200s are slated for at least eight rounds of the AMA Pro road racing calendar, kicking off the season at Daytona, with its largest grid to date, and a roster of riders that’s shaping up to be a virtual “IROC” of motorcycle racing.

2007 Daytona 200 winner, Steve Rapp and Michael Barnes will be leading the contingent of veteran road racers onboard their Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties sponsored XR1200s.

From flat track, 2000 AMA Grand National Champion, Joe Kopp will be riding an XR1200 for Latus Racing. The former Screamin’ Eagle Wrecking Crew member has had an amazing career racing the Harley-Davidson XR750 on the half-mile and mile tracks of fairgrounds across the country. So it’s only fitting for Kopp to make his road racing debut on the bike that takes its inspiration from the quintessential icon of flat track racing.

There will also be plenty of young guns out to prove their mettle in the XR1200 Series this season, including supermoto star, Chris Fillmore, who made the transition to road racing in 2009, and will be competing on the RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing Revolution Performance XR1200. Another young top-ten finisher from the Daytona Sportbike class riding an XR1200 this season will be Michael Beck on the J&P Cycles sponsored entry.

“The XR1200 class is really starting to take shape and come into its own,” said Vance & Hines President Terry Vance. “Harley-Davidson and AMA Pro have provided fantastic support to make this program happen, and I am truly thrilled about the diversity of riders, teams and sponsors that are getting involved in the class. 2011 is going to be a great season.”

The AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series begins the 2011 season during Bike Week at Daytona International Speedway, March 10-12. Stay in touch throughout the season at vanceandhines.com/xr1200series.html and facebook.com/vanceandhines
