Santa Fe Springs, CA, April 20, 2011 – Vance & Hines Amateur Motocross Team riders, Preston Tilford and Steven Tokarski produced solid results at the 40th Annual World Mini Grand Prix, collectively scoring third place overall finishes in three different classes. Taking place for a second year in a row at the Mesquite MX Park, this year’s World Mini’s provided great weather and track conditions all week long for the over 1,500 riders competing in 44 different classes from the Pee Wee to the Pro categories.
Competing in the ultra competitive 250 and 450 Mod Pro classes, Preston showed great pace and consistency in each of his motos, resulting in a third overall on his Yamaha YZ450F, his best national result so far this year. And on his YZ250F, Preston finished eighth overall in the 250 Mod Pro class.
The Mod Intermediate classes were also fiercely competitive throughout the week, often turning lap times on par with the Pro classes. Racing in both the 250 and 450 Intermediate classes, Steven made a convincing demonstration of his caliber as a national contender. In the 250 Mod Intermediate class, he took wins in both of his Division 1 Heats, leading nearly every lap. And in Moto 2, Steven finished a strong third place result, for a third overall in the class. In Moto 1 of the 450 Mod Intermediate class, Steven recovered from a tough start to fight his way up to a fourth place finish. And in Moto 2, he crossed the line second, netting him another third overall result for the event.
Taking away third place overall finishes in three classes, Preston and Steven will be looking to continue building their momentum towards the Loretta Lynn’s Ranch AMA National Amateur Motocross Championships this summer. Next up, the team will be heading up to Honey Lake MX Park in Milford, California for the next Northwest and Southwest Loretta Lynn’s Area Qualifier, April 29 through May 1.
