There’s exciting news as the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series heads into the final round of its debut season this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. Veteran racer, Jeremy McWilliams, who clinched the 2010 championship for the sister XR1200 Series in the United Kingdom is coming to America to compete in the AMA onboard the HOG Racing team Harley-Davidson XR1200.
The Belfast native’s grand prix career spanned well over a decade where he competed for the factory Aprilia, Proton and Ilmor teams in the premier MotoGP category. After a spell with Triumph in the FIM World Supersport Championship, McWilliams landed a ride with Warr’s Harley-Davidson in the British XR1200 Trophy for 2010, winning the championship in dominating fashion.
McWilliams is no stranger, however, to racing in America on an American bike, having competed in the 2006 Daytona 200 on a Buell XBRR. On news of the announcement McWilliams said “I have had an awesome season riding my Warr’s XR1200 and winning the championship was our goal! For sure, I am excited about returning to the AMA paddock and I can’t wait to fire up that XR1200 for the final round of the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series. Barber Motorsports Park looks like a truly fantastic track.”
Quickly becoming a fan favorite at the track, the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series provides a competitive spec-class format that’s ideal for both up-and-coming and veteran racers alike. Barber Motorsports Park lies just east of downtown Birmingham, Alabama. The XR1200s will be on track Saturday for practice and qualifying with their feature race in the early afternoon on Sunday.
