Vance & Hines MX Team rider Preston Tilford made his professional racing debut in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross championship last weekend, at the Traxxas Pala National, the final round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, competing on his Vance & Hines built Yamaha YZ250F.
With 68 riders entered for the 250 class, entries were divided up into A and B groups, with the A group reserved for the AMA Pro regulars. In his first outing at a pro event, Preston posted the second fastest time out of the 37 riders qualifying in the B group, which was also faster than seven of the pro riders in the A group. This placed Preston in an impressive 25th spot in qualifying out of the 40 fastest riders who transferred to the mains.
In the 250 Moto #1, Preston ran well, putting in consistent lap times to finish a solid 21st in the 30 minute plus two lap race. In the 250 Moto #2, Preston improved further, making some good passes to finish 18th.
