Sophomore Vance & Hines MX Team rider Preston Tilford will make his professional racing debut this weekend, at the Traxxas Pala National, the final round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
Launched at the beginning of 2010, Tilford is the first rider to graduate through the Vance & Hines rider development program, having qualified for and competed in the amateur national championships at Loretta’s in both the 250A and 450A classes for the past two seasons. And by achieving top ten results in both A classes this year, Tilford has established his eligibility to qualify for his first AMA outdoor national.
“Preston has steadily matured and improved many aspects of his riding over the past two seasons on our Vance & Hines built Yamaha YZ450F and 250F, so we are pleased to see him take his first shot against the pros this weekend,” said Vance & Hines MX Team Manager, Josh Bulrice. “With the expansion of our team this year to a two-rider effort, with an A and B rider, we are looking forward to enabling more talented young riders to progress to the pro level.”
On news of the announcement, an ecstatic Tilford said, “I’m totally pumped to be racing at Pala, especially to be able to do my first pro race in front of my home crowd. I really want to perform well to show my thanks for all the support I have received from the Vance & Hines team and my family.”
The Traxxas Pala National takes place this Saturday, September 10 at Pala Raceway. Catch the first 250 and 450 motos live on Fuel TV starting at 1pm Pacific, and then the second pair of motos live on SpeedTV from 4pm Pacific.
