July 27 & 28. Loudon, NH -July’s running of the Loudon Road Race Series yielded great results once again for Team FTF Cycles / IronWorks Magazine Racing. Piloting the team’s 2009 Harley-Davidson XR1200 Sportster is Scott Settino. Although Scott hasn’t seen the track in some 29 years, it’s evident that the 60-year-old Settino still has what it takes to get the job done taking four first place finishes this past weekend.
Being the only team racing Harleys in the series, this team really has their work cut out for them. Putting the burly 520 lb Sportster up against a sea of foreign machines has had its challenges, but with hard work and some great sponsors, Scott and the FTF crew are getting #231 on the box race after race.
Re-entering the racing circuit after almost 3 decades required Settino to begin at a novice level. Since the team’s debut in the second race weekend of the 7 part series, the team has placed in the top three in every event thus far. With 12 races under their belt, Team FTF / IronWorks has placed first in 8 events, second in 3 events and third in 1 event. With consistent lap times in the 1:22’s, Settino has been advanced to amateur for the next round in the series.
“Now that we’ve advanced a class, we’ll be facing some new challenges in August” says FTF Cycles shop owner and Crew Chief, Dan Pike. “Every race offers new hurdles and another opportunity to show what an American machine with the right components and the right rider can do.” “As an independent shop, we want to prove the reliability of our services and the parts we sell the old fashioned way. Nothing screams reliability like racing!”
