The penultimate round of the maiden season of the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series is happening this weekend, September 4-5 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Richie Morris Racing’s Danny Eslick is certainly going in as the clear favorite, having managed a perfect record so far, both in terms of pole positions and race wins. But there’ll be a few hungry riders looking to break that streak and land on the top step of the podium.
Some of the biggest challengers Eslick will have to fend off this weekend are going to be his own RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing teammates Jake Holden and Kyle Wyman. And there will be another Wyman, Travis Wyman, on board an XR1200 sponsored by Harv’s Harley-Davidson looking to put the pressure on Eslick as well. Travis got his first taste of the podium at the last round at VIR with an outstanding second place finish.
This weekend will also see another new rider, MotorcycleUSA.com’s Executive Editor, Steve Atlas taking his first turn of a race prepared XR1200 in anger around the awesome Thunderbolt Raceway course at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Atlas will be a guest rider competing on the HOG Racing sponsored XR1200, which was also been ridden by fellow journalist Aaron Frank at the opening round at Road America back in June. You can read the story of Frank’s experience in the October issue of Motorcyclist magazine on newsstands now.
New Jersey Motorsports Park draws some of the biggest crowds seen at AMA Pro road racing events, so the entire XR field will be looking to put on a great show this weekend. NJMP is situated in the southern part of New Jersey between Philadelphia and Atlantic City in the town of Millville. If you’re in the area, come on down to check out the AMA races.
