On Friday, the racing action got underway with the Open classes hitting the track. For V&H rider Paul Coates, this was the first year he has made the trip out west to race the track in Mammoth. Paul wasted no time grabbing a holeshot in his division race and running away with the victory in the Open-Intermediate race. With the win in the division, Paul transferred straight to the main event where he finished 2nd overall. Paul showed great consistence all weekend running up front in the division races and despite some bad luck in the 250 and 450 main events, he leaves California knowing he will be a contender at the National Championships in August.
For the past nine summers V&H rider Steven Tokarski has the last week of June highlighted on his calendar to race the Mammoth Mountain MX. One of his favorites on the amateur circuit, Steven has enjoyed his share of success here over the years. This year has the added storyline that for the first time all season he has been at full strength and top speed. Steven wasted no time letting the other competitors know he is ready to join the conversation for a national title. Steven rode exceptional all weekend taking home 2nd place overall in the Open-Pro and 250-Pro classes and finishing 3rd overall in the 450-Pro class.
The team and riders now head home and begin to prepare for the Loretta Lynn National Championships, only a month away. Keep up with all the action at vanceandhines.com and at facebook/vanceandhines.com.
