This year marked the 70th running of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and by all accounts, it was a strong success. Not only was attendance up at this year’s rally, so was business. Black Hills Harley-Davidson sold more new motorcycles than the prior year’s rally, and both of the major locations selling and installing Vance & Hines exhaust systems; Black Hills Harley and J&P Cycles, saw sales improve over last year. For the Sturgis Rally, Vance & Hines puts both of its Show Trucks on the road to cover the wide landscape that the rally spreads across. As in previous years, the Vance & Hines Show Trucks were parked at both Black Hills Harley in Rapid City and J&P Cycles Store in downtown Sturgis. These partnerships are a great plus for customers as it gives them the opportunity to see and hear the latest Vance & Hines systems installed on bikes at the Vance & Hines displays, and then if they’re ready, both Black Hills Harley and J&P have those same Vance & Hines products in stock and ready to install at special outdoor installation centers setup on the dealer’s parking lot.
Perhaps more than any other rally, Sturgis is a rider’s rally. The Black Hills of South Dakota provide some of the most scenic backdrops to be found in the United States. And Harley Touring bikes are the most popular choice for those who enjoy clocking up the miles on the odometer during the event. At this year’s rally, two of the newest Touring slip-on mufflers from Vance & Hines; Monster Rounds and Hi-Output Slip-ons, were the big hits. Monster Rounds offer the same smooth and mellow growl that the Monster Ovals have become known for, in a 4-inch round design that captures the same premium look of the Monster Oval. Hi-Output Slip-ons capture the latest new look of a stepped muffler design and put out a more aggressive roar with the performance to back it up.
Working the other end of the motor, the new VO2 Naked Air Intake was another popular purchase. Designed for use with the stock air cleaner cover or one of the new upcoming Vance & Hines Skull Caps covers, the VO2 Naked is a great option to open up the air flow for improved performance at an economical retail price of $139.95.
The best thing to take away from this year’s Sturgis rally is that things are starting to look like they’re turning around for motorcycling. Folks were out in big numbers, riding and eager to get new stuff outfitted for their bikes.
